Hope you’ve got your costumes, face-painted, hair dyed, tick-or-teat selves ready for the big day!!  If your like me and are still looking for that perfect costume then come on in and take a gander through our costume/dress-up selection!  Well, Spring is upon us, and in keeping with the change of season, Cowboys and Angels has some very exciting news!! We now have a new location at 2003 West 4th Avenue (corner of Maple & 4th Ave.) ! We are so thrilled to introduce a new store to you which still offers a ceramics studio and the same exceptional choice of safe, hip and fun toys that we are commited to selling. Come and stop by on the way to the beach to pick up some very cute Melissa and Doug beach pails, or a funky Melissa and Doug beach ball, perfect for some beach soccer games! Rainy day? Don’t fret, we can make those fun too with some brilliant Sumoku adding games or Wild Action Pocket Fun Dominoes. We are stocked with toys to make your May and your Spring fun no matter what the weather Gods have in store for
Vancouver. Also, in anticipation of Summer and those days of your kids complaining “What can I dooo?”, don’t forget to register for our great Cowboys and Angels summer camps – week long camps where your child can paint a different ceramic piece each day, as well as play games and meet other creative kids! Except that my summers are always the busiest times of my year! I guess I’m longing for those long, lazy days when I was a kid. No job, no responsibilities, just days and days of hanging out poolside at Maple Grove Park with Melissa and running through the sprinkler with my siblings and jumping on a trampoline with water at Kelly’s house (summers were always too hot for me so if I was outside, it was near water!)

But here’s the thing: as I type this out, all I can truly remember was the endless feeling of boredom. Sure, there were some fun times. And I know I loved being able to sleep-in, even though I’ve never really been any good at it. But I can remember asking my mom day after day what I should do. “Mom, I’m bored.” “Mom, what can I do today?” “Moooooooom!” Ugh. She must have hated summers! Here we all were, hanging around the house and just whining all the time. In the past I’ve blogged about some sweet summer toys that are sure to keep the little ones occupied – my favourite still being the sprinklers (I told you, summer = too hot!) – but today, today I champion getting them not only out of the house, but out of your hair for an hour or two! After the incredible response we got from our summer camps last year, we’re bringing them back. Now, I know it’s only February and summer seems a long ways off, but I say get a head start on your answers to all those “What should I do today, Mom?” questions.

The dates of our camps are officially up on the website and there’s no time like the present to pencil those into the calendar. That way you can relax today, knowing your kids have something fun to do this summer!

I know I bid farewell not three posts ago, but I’m going to be guest blogging for the next week or so as we get this site all geared up for a big winter surprise! Plus, it’s been something like eight months and the boys only managed one post? I’m not one for gender bias, but the boys really dropped the ball on this one. I can’t wait to teach the new girls how to use the blog and Twitter so that we get some proper updates on the go, amIright?! In fairness to the fine gents of Cowboys and Angels, the store is looking AMAZING these days (I may not have a gender bias, but I have an admitted toy store bias and it is strongly in favour of Cowboys and Angels! So much cute stuff! Thank goodness I have a niece AND nephew to spoil while I’m home…). Since I’ve been away they have gotten a ton of new stock and new product lines in – I have been in the store twice for extended periods of time and I still haven’t seen it all!

In the coming days there will be some small but very necessary changes to our webpage, the return of our Twitter account and an update of the facebook page. Keep your eyes peeled for changes to our photography and ceramics pages especially! It feels good to be back! Happy Valentine’s Day!

And I know the saying is “April showers…”, but there’s been so much rain lately that it just felt right to go with February, no?

Seems a bit counter-intuitive to introduce myself just as I leave, but I’ve never been one to do what seems normal (I wouldn’t work at a toy store if I did!) and I figured better late than never.

My name is Leigh and I grew up right here in Kerrisdale. After nearly seven years of living away from home, I moved back to Vancouver last fall and promptly got a job here at Cowboys and Angels. Everything I’ve written on this blog is true: I have an adorable niece who happens to be part of the gallery on the website, Find It! was the biggest staff craze of the past several months, and I do have an unabashed crush on Kevin Bieksa of the Vancouver Canucks. I have also truly enjoyed my time here at Cowboys and Angels. I’ve met so many wonderful families and kids and seen so many old friends and parents of those friends shopping for grandkid gifts… it’s been truly wonderful.

Thank you to my co-workers for their friendship, thank you to Philip and Polly for their generosity and kindness, and thank you to you for reading and contributing! Have an incredible summer and go play!

Now, keeping in mind I haven’t yet had my tea for the day, this post (the second to last in my “week” long series) is going to be brief… but seriously, how cute is this tea set!? And eco-friendly too! Long live Sprig!
